We are The Center for Recovery Awareness (CFRA). We are made up of those who have, are, or will recover from mental illness. Words about recovery have historically been paired with substance abuse or cure of a physical illness. When it comes to mental health verses mental illness much of the information paints a picture of doom and gloom. Too often information about mental illness provides little hope of living a full and productive life. Recovery is possible and in fact in most cases probable – yet the myths and stigmas of past years cloud what we know to be true. This website starts in Battle Creek, Michigan at the Share Center – a Drop-In Self-Help (DISH, Inc) Center. Here we have a host of groups to assist us in our journey to recovery and/or in our maintenance. We have learned a lot from one another here – the biggest lesson is that recovery isn’t just a dream but a reality. We’ve searched Michigan, the United States, and even the globe to find various recovery stories, strategies, and tools. Some of these will be presented to you in the following pages. Our first stop will be the Share Center itself where one of our recovery strategies “Talking with Family and Friends” is in full swing at the July 4th Picnic turning a parking lot into a festive event for well over 200 people. Amazing things can happen when we all work together!
