Summit Pointe - Community Mental Health (CMH) of Michigan

While many CMHs are still in the illness model, Summit Pointe is all about recovery, mental and physical health, and self-sufficiency. The Board of Directors of Summit Pointe has Self-Sufficiency as one of their core values. The Board's overall Mission or "MegaEnd" statement is "All people in our region will healthy and lead optimally functional lives." Like I said, Summit Pointe is all about recovery since their overall organizational goal (as determined by the Board) is very similar to the CFRA vision of recovery "Recovery is leading a normal and fully functional life."

Summit Pointe may not be able to impact every life in the community but the Mega End statement is the Board's dream and we want to keep that in front of us at all times. Things have changed drastically in this organization over the past 20 years. Connections, an employment service for the mentally ill, those in recovery, and the developmentally disabled sees that over those with severe mental illness, if at all possible, can go to work. To learn more about Connections and Summit Pointe go to www.summitpointe.org.  There is also information on mental health services, the Wellness Center, independent living opportunities and so forth.

This part of the site is still under construction but we will be bringing you more about Summit Pointe and their role in Calhoun County's mental health over the next month. See updates to this area of the site by October 15, 2004!

The Michigan Department of Community Health provides the state funding portion for mental health services. To look at what the state of Michigan is doing in mental and physical health go to www.michigan.gov/mdch.

The overall mission of Michigan's Department of Community Health (MDCH) is:
MDCH strives for a healthier Michigan. To that end, the department will:

  • Promote access to the broadest possible range of quality services and supports

  • Take steps to prevent disease, promote wellness and improve quality of life

  • Strive for the delivery of those services and supports in a fiscally prudent manner
